2010 The Bridge Home, SDYS

IFMA San Diego will be working on The Bridge Group Home.   The Bridge falls under the direction of San Diego Youth Services (SDYS) and provides short and long term group home placement to youth ages 12 to 17, most of whom are referred for placement by the San Diego County Departments of Juvenile Probation or Health and Human Services. The Bridge offers a safe and nurturing environment. It embraces each youth's physical, intellectual, spiritual, and emotional growth. The Bridge promotes personal empowerment while encouraging healthy interdependent relationships.

The Bridge is an older home in the North Park area that is in need of a serious make over.  The Bridge has been housing at risk teenagers for over 30 years and has become very run down over the years with all the wear and tear.  We are looking for companies and individuals who can assist with the skills, materials, tools or whatever you can donate to bring this Foster Care Home back into shape!  However, this is just a start on a big project like this.

Saturday June 19, 8:00AM - 5:00PM

Another step was taken to complete IFMA San Diego's hand on project on Saturday, June 19th.  A team of Outreach for Humanity volunteers installed brand new carpet (donated by Re:Source Floors) at the Bridge Group Home in San Diego.  Some of the volunteers are seasoned journeyman carpet installers, who are generously donating of their time & talent. Other volunteers are there to support as "helpers" with furniture moving and whatever it takes to leave the house with brand new flooring in one day!
A special thank you to Tony Masey from JW Flooring for bringing us together with Tauna Rodarte from Re:Source Floors.

AMERICAN TECHNOLOGIES, INC. is pleased to be able to assist San Diego Youth Services in this worthwhile project, and their contribution will include wall cabinets for each bedroom, new doors for the laundry cabinets, as well as repairs to the kitchen cabinets as were determined some time ago. This amounts to approximately $7,200 retail value in labor and materials. ATI will deliver and install the cabinets on Friday morning, July 1. A special thank you to David Castillo, Cabinet Maker and Stan Schritt, Project Manager.
If you would like to volunteer or can donate some supplies, refreshments, etc, please email Shari Joyce as soon as possible.

Saturday May 1, 8:00AM - 5:00PM

Task: To paint the interior of “The Bridge” foster care home. We estimated it would take 80 hours of work for a professional painter. We had 16 hours of professional painter time for that day donated by Brad Stoner Painting. That left us with the need for 64 hours of labor to complete the interior which is equivalent to 16 volunteers (at 4 hours each).

Outcome: On Saturday May 1st, nineteen volunteers showed up ready to serve. Each person gave of themselves and a great time was had by all. We painted the interior areas requested by “The Bridge” and were finished by noon that day.
