San Diego Youth Services (SDYS) Holidays! Storefront Decorating A Success!
The Storefront is a 20-bed emergency shelter--the only one in San Diego specifically designed for homeless youth from 12-17. It is one of the programs that falls under the umbrella of San Diego Youth Services (SDYS). Its goal is to return these young people to their families, or to find them independent living arrangements and prevent their sexual exploitation. During the Holidays The Storefront is a safe place for youth to relax, get off the streets, eat holiday food and enjoy some of the most love filled days of the year.
The decorating party on November 25, 2009 started at 1:00pm and ended in a tour of the facility at 4:00pm. Just knowing the joy the kids would have upon their return to the shelter that night to see what others had done for them was the reason for our mission.
Here are some of the ways we got involved this year:
$$$$. We collected $140 at the IFMA meeting on November 11th.
Decorations. We had wonderful decorations saved from years past. Some of our money went towards the purchase of Santa hats for the youth as they love wearing them, silver garland and 10 boxes of multi colored indoor/outdoor lights.
Who Showed Up!. Shari Joyce/Pegasus Cleanroom Services, Jackie Hailey/Johnson & Jennings, Travis Alegria/My Office Facility Solutions, Gary Filimon/Facility Consultant, Carol Whitmore/CW Office Planning, Sherul Wohl Chaffee/Ntrada Designs, Ashlyn/10 years old. Glen Thomas/ GCTHOMAS could not attend but sent a $50 check in his place.
