2010 August Luncheon Meeting: Benchmarking Our Speaker: Daryl DeJean of Emerging Technologies Associates Inc. presented a very straightforward approach to Benchmarking. In collaboration with SDGE, Daryl provided a step-by-step process for achieving energy savings through the Energy Star program. Benchmarking is important since it allows you to compare your energy costs with others and learn new ways to conserve. Not only does it provide savings to your bottom line, but it also earns points to LEED certification and complies with CA Assembly Bill 1103. Once benchmarked, you can determine the “MPG” of your building – a standardized measurement of your energy efficiency. To qualify for the program, you must have a minimum of 5,000 square feet, open at least 30 hours a week, and have 50% or more annual occupancy. To learn more about Daryl’s presentation, click here.

The work starts with summarizing what spaces you have and making sure that the data is always accurate. The use of CAFM is important for successful planning.
